Q: By looking at you web site I am not sure where your current location is, how do I schedule a vacation?
A: The nature of our business means that is often hard to get an internet connection. So we can't always update the web site on a timely basis. For example, in El Salvador, it takes us 2 hours to get to a cyber cafe, so we can have internet access. Contact us by email and we will respond with our location, and our scheduled availability, when we check our email. In addition, we can set up a time to talk, if you need to talk to me immediately (see the next question for details), I can set a scheduled time.
Q: This sounds like it makes it really difficult for me to schedule the type of vacation I want, obtain pricing information, and make changes if something unexpected comes up.
- Not at all. The boat is equipped with satellite phone communication. This system allows both voice and data to be sent and received from any location on the planet. The system is not used for an initial contacts with a clients, since it is somewhat expensive. @ $1.50 per minute for outgoing calls, I don't use it to call prospects to answer general questions. Once a possible client shows a genuine interest, they get an email address & phone number so I can be easily reached through this system. In additions, there is no charge to me for incoming voice calls, so if a prospective client wants to talk, and they are willing to pay international phone rates, then they are more then welcomed to call me.
- I've never traveled internationally, or have been on a sail/dive vacation, what do I need to prepare for the trip and what should I bring?
- Prior to your departure, you will receive a list detailing visa requirement, vaccinations needed, and a list of equipment to bring.
- What happens in case of an accident, how do I get medical help?
A. The boat has an extensive medical kit for emergencies while not in close proximity to civilization, and the skipper has been trained in its use. In addition, there is an extensive medical library on board to help diagnosis problems, and doctors can be contacted through the HAM radio, and satellite phone. However, it is recommended that you obtain some type of emergency evacuation insurance before you arrive. While not necessary, it is a low cost way of assuring your costs are covered for evacuation. Costs are usually $100 US or less. Check out the insurance offered by "Divers Alert Network".
